Physiotherapy for Dizziness/Vertigo

Physiotherapy for Dizziness/Vertigo

Did you know that physiotherapy can help with dizziness/vertigo?

“Vestibular impairment is the underlying cause in up to 45% of people complaining of dizziness.”

What is the Vestibular System?

The vestibular system is a part of the inner ear and its connection to the brain. A dysfunction of this system cause dizziness and/or vertigo, motion sensitivity, and can affect our balance contributing to unsteadiness and falls. The symptoms can be a result of head trauma (e.g. motor vehicle accident (MVA), concussion, etc.), age-related changes, ear infections, certain medications, or simply rolling in bed. The most common cause of vertigo is called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) which can normally be treated in one to three treatments done by a specially trained physiotherapist.
