Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized form of physiotherapy for the treatment of:

  • Urinary incontinence
  • Bowel incontinence
  • Constipation
  • Chronic pelvic pain or lower abdominal pain
  • Bladder, uterus or rectal prolapse
  • Myofascial pain
  • Perinatal complications including episiotomy problems or tears during delivery

Pelvic floor physiotherapy integrates muscle re-education, bowel and bladder habits, the effects of diet on bowel and bladder health, the impact of body mechanics, and the role of posture as it relates to the pelvic floor.

Pelvic floor physiotherapists often work with other health professionals including family physicians, urogynecologists and nurses. A doctor’s referral is not required but preferred.
