THE Downtown Sports Clinics offer the following programs:

Fit For Living Assessment

This program is directed at keeping individuals well and safe from injury during everyday tasks of living. This is accomplished by educating you about the importance of an active lifestyle and showing you how to avoid hurting your body at home, work, or at play. A full musculoskeletal assessment (MSK), which examines muscle strength and endurance, muscle and joint flexibility, posture and individual strategies of completing activities of daily living, is performed. Following this assessment, our physiotherapist can design and supervise your individual conditioning program to optimize performance and overall fitness level, muscle strength, and endurance.

Sport & Fitness Assessment

Sport & fitness assessment is the ultimate prevention program for those striving for injury-free excellence. This program includes strength, flexibility, and biomechanical assessments leading to sport specific strategies to help you achieve your ultimate goal.

Clinical Gait Analysis

The Clinical Gait Analysis is a state-of-the-art biomechanical and scientific injury assessment. This service involves 3-dimensional measurements of your running and/or walking gait biomechanics using a 6-camera motion capture system. As well, scientific measures of your anatomical structure, muscle flexibility, and strength are taken to provide a comprehensive and individualized assessment of your injury. These measures are compared to the database of research data from the Running Injury Clinic (www.runninginjuryclinic.com) at the University of Calgary to determine exactly what aspects of your body need improvement and are directly related to your injury. A report is generated and recommendations are made in terms of therapeutic intervention, gait mechanics, orthotics or shoe inserts, and footwear to optimize your injury treatment and prevent future injuries. The outcome of this analysis will facilitate your return to running pain free.

Biomechanical Analysis

The Biomechanical Analysis is a specific service available only at THE Downtown Sports Clinics. This service was developed by the Running Injury Clinic to help the team of physiotherapists at THE Downtown Sports Clinics provide a state-of-the-art scientific biomechanical analysis of your walking and running gait biomechanics. Using a 6-camera motion capture system, the Biomechanical Analysis provides a report to the physiotherapist to give them the most scientific and accurate assessment of your gait mechanics. This report, combined with the physiotherapist's clinical expertise will facilitate a more accurate diagnosis of your problem. Treatment programs can then be developed to manage your specific needs.

TPI Screening

TPI Screening is a program for golfers of all levels that will keep you injury free, improve your golf, and add years to your golf game. The TPI Screening addresses strength, flexibility, posture, and some swing mechanics to help identify limitations of your body. You will have a physical assessment performed by a Certified TPI Physiotherapist who will determine the source and cause of any asymmetries that have been identified (joint, muscle or ligament restrictions). The information collected is used to design a specific exercise program for your golf muscles and/or guide a physiotherapy treatment plan, to keep you playing the game at your peak performance. The TPI Screening takes approximately 1 hour to complete.

Spinal Stabilization Program - Stability Plus

Recent research indicates that specific exercise of the deep spinal stabilizing muscles is more effective than general exercises for reducing pain and functional disability in people who experience stability problems in the spine. This program is designed to teach participants how to:

  • Isolate and recruit deep spinal stabilizing muscles
  • Improve endurance and co-ordination of the spinal stabilizing muscles
  • Learn and use proven back care principles

This program involves:

  • 1 private session with a physiotherapist
  • 4 small group classes instructed by a physiotherapist
  • the use of a physioball and foam roller.

This program is offered at various times throughout the year

Office Ergonomic Assessments

Office Ergonomic Assessments examines your work environment, how you work in it, and how your work affects you physically. It assesses the compatibility between you and your workplace, workstation, home office, and the tasks you perform. Once this assessment is complete, we will identify strategies to improve the compatibility between your physical capabilities and the demands of your work. The assessment will provide guidelines on how you can improve your performance, productivity, and physical well being on the job. It will also highlight ways to minimize health and safety concerns related to your work.
