Louise Taylor

Louise Taylor

Clinical Administrator, B.M.R. (PT),
FCAMPT, CAFCI

Louise graduated as a physiotherapist (BMR PT) from the University of Manitoba in 1991, and she has been consulting with THE Downtown Sports Clinics since 1993. Her sports practice has evolved with her personal interests, as she has trained for many running races and triathlons, including the Ironman distance. She also enjoys hiking, biking, cross-country and downhill skiing in the mountains. Consulting with coaches, personal fitness trainers, athletes and other physiotherapists has also been very valuable in developing her practice.

Louise’s greatest skills are in analyzing biomechanical problems, identifying root causes and then treating them with a combination of manual therapy and exercise prescription. She achieved qualifications in spinal manipulation (FCAMT) in 1999 and uses these techniques to mobilize the spine and pelvis. Her patients range from the sedentary office worker to highly trained athletes. Nobody gets away without a home exercise program and education to help themselves achieve and maintain better muscle balance.

In 2003, Louise was certified in acupuncture (CAFCI) and has become enlightened by the sometimes very powerful effects of this approach. Studying acupuncture has also increased her understanding of the need to have a more holistic approach in the care and maintenance of the body. Louise uses both traditional Chinese medicine and dry needling techniques.

In 2011, Louise achieved the academic master’s designation in manipulative therapy (MClSc MT) from the University of Western Ontario. Her research study will continue in the area of lumbo-pelvic-hip pain in the hunter/jumper rider population.

Other special areas of interest are injuries related to running and triathlon, and performance of the master athlete.

Carolyn Hiles

Carolyn Hiles

PT - BScPT, FCAMPT, CAFCI, GunnIMS

Carolyn graduated in 1993 from McGill University with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy, offering an abundance of experience at THE Downtown Sports Clinics. With extensive post-graduate education, she has acquired a wide variety of skills and tools to apply to her treatment regimes. In particular, Carolyn is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy and has achieved internationally recognized qualification in manual and manipulative therapy.

Carolyn is certified and highly experienced in Gunn IMS (intramuscular stimulation), and acupuncture.  Recently she took courses in temperomandibular joint (TMJ) rehabilitation and selective functional movement analysis. The latter accesses fundamental movement patterns to identify dysfunction, which may contribute to chronic injury. These tools allow flexibility to vary treatment regimes, as no one approach may be appropriate for all clients. Having worked exclusively in Calgary since graduation, Carolyn has developed a broad network with other healthcare professionals in the city.

Physiotherapy has been an exciting career choice for Carolyn. She enjoys the challenge of diagnosing musculoskeletal dysfunctions and treating her clients with an active approach to their rehabilitation. Carolyn sees her work as an opportunity to be proactive in promoting health and wellness with her clients.

If physiotherapy is not enough of a challenge, Carolyn balances her career with her family of four children and her passion for endurance sport training. She has competed in numerous running and triathlon events including the Boston Marathon, and she is a four-time finisher of Ironman Canada.
