Siobhan Duggan
PT - Director, Dip.PT, MSCP, Acupuncture
Siobhan is the director of the Bow Valley Square location and co-owner of THE Downtown Sports Clinics. She has been a physiotherapist since 1973 and remains passionate about her profession. Siobhan’s major interest is the management of chronic spinal problems. She believes in fixing the early warning signs of aches and pains to prevent muscle imbalance and postural asymmetries leading to the breakdown of discs and joints.
Siobhan has a diploma in physiotherapy from The National University of Ireland, and she is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in London, England. She is an orthopedic manual and manipulative physiotherapist. In 2000, Siobhan received her certificate in medical acupuncture from the University of Alberta. She continues to upgrade her skills and knowledge to enhance her treatment techniques.
Living in Canada since 1975, Siobhan loves the Rocky Mountains and the opportunity to be surrounded by magnificent scenery. She is a keen skier, hiker and golfer.
Lori Townsend
PT - BScPT, CAFCI
Lori began her professional career in 1982, graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy. Remaining current with advancements in the field is very important to Lori, and she has completed specialized post-graduate level courses including her Intermediate Diploma (Part A) in Manual Therapy and certification in Acupuncture from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. She continues to upgrade her techniques by attending courses and reading professional journals.
After working in hospital and private practice settings, Lori joined THE Downtown Sports Clinics team. Lori has a special interest in treating sport related injuries in competitive and recreational athletes, hand-and-wrist injuries, temperomandibular Joint (TMJ) problems, and clients with chronic pain. Her breadth of knowledge and experience, combined with her commitment and compassion for her clients has enabled her to establish and maintain quality relationships with clients, colleagues and physicians. Every client receives quality care starting with a thorough assessment. This provides Lori with the foundation to develop an individualized treatment program. Programs include a combination of manual therapy, modalities and specific exercises to improve mobility, stability and function, which are necessary to improve a client’s quality of life.
Lori enjoys cycling to work, running half marathons, downhill and cross-country skiing and swimming. She volunteers at various sporting events and recently travelled to the 14th World Gymnaestrada in Lausanne, Switzerland with a gymnastics team.
JEFF NESSLER
PT - BScPT, B.PE, IMS, FCAMPT, GunnIMS
Jeff graduated from the University of Alberta in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy; he also holds a Bachelor of Physical Education degree. Since joining THE Downtown Sports Clinics in 2003, Jeff has completed an Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative Therapy and has certified as a Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) practitioner.
Jeff treats athletes of all levels — particularly injuries to the shoulder, hip and knee. He focuses on injury prevention and return to performance, and continues to develop his clinical skills in the treatment of complex chronic neck and back pain. He works closely with other health practitioners associated with prolotherapy and advanced pain control techniques.
Jeff enjoys biking, running and cross-country skate skiing. He is also the happy and busy father of two little girls.
Kristen Grovue
PT – BScPT, IMS, Pelvic Floor Practitioner
Kristen graduated from the University of Alberta Physiotherapy program in 1991. She successfully passed her intermediate exam in Manual Therapy in 1997 and received her Gunn IMS certification in 2005. Her special interests are treating pelvic floor dysfunction, lumbopelvic pain and chronic spinal conditions. Specifically she treats bowel and bladder dysfunction, urinary incontinence, constipation, pelvic and lower abdominal pain, peri-natal care, and pelvic organ prolapse. She believes that the combination of physical therapy techniques, home exercise programs, and an understanding of the impact of pain and dysfunction on an individual’s daily activities is the key to successful management for her clients.
Kristen enjoys cross-country skiing, hiking, cycling, yoga and dance. She is also the busy mother of two boys.
Jennifer Andrews
PT – BPE, BScPT, CAFCI
Jennifer graduated from the University of Alberta in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy as well as a Bachelor of Physical Education majoring in exercise physiology. Since then, she has completed a multitude of post-graduate courses, including spinal stabilization, motor vehicle accident specialization, and many advanced manual therapy courses for both spinal and peripheral manipulation. She has advanced training in manual and manipulative therapy, and she is certified in acupuncture with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada.
Jennifer loves the outdoors and has lived in many mountain communities pursuing her passion for mountain biking and downhill skiing. She also enjoys yoga, golf, running and strength training. She speaks fluent French and has traveled extensively.
Having suffered many sports-related injuries resulting in numerous physiotherapy sessions, Jennifer believes strongly in physiotherapy and its benefits for both the prevention and recovery of injuries.
Tom Wong
PT – B.Kin, MPHTY
Tom completed his Master of Physiotherapy degree at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, and holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from the University of Calgary. Tom has a special interest in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and sports injuries. As a graduate from Australia, he has a strong manual therapy background, taking a more hands-on approach to patient treatments. In 2010, Tom presented at the 7th International Scientific Conference on the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in Angers, France. His research examined the relationship between neck pain and computer-related tasks.
Having served with the Canadian Forces and the Australian Defence Force he understands the demands of a high-performance athlete and aims to empower patients to take control of their treatment by providing self-management strategies and achievable goals. As an avid rock climber, Tom has suffered many climbing-related injuries and has a special interest in injuries from the shoulder to the elbow and fingers.
During his off time, you will find Tom in the mountains telemark skiing, mountain biking, climbing at the local crags or in the backcountry high up in the alpine.
Amy Montgomery
PT – BScKin, MScPT, Cert.Sport PT
Amy has been a physiotherapist since 2005, working in private-practice clinics in both Ontario and Alberta. She graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2003 and a Master of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto in 2005. She is studying for her Sports Physiotherapy diploma and completing her manual therapy and acupuncture levels.
Amy developed an interest in physiotherapy during her figure skating career, where she competed nationally and internationally. During this time, she developed an appreciation for the benefits of physiotherapy; it allowed her to remain active in sports, but also stressed full recovery from injury. Amy strives for this balance with her clients.
She is a physiotherapist with the Team Canada Women’s Hockey teams and the U18 Alberta female rugby team. She has worked with the U18 Alberta women’s hockey team since 2009, and has travelled with them to both the National Championships and the Canada Winter Games.
In her spare time, Amy enjoys biking, golfing, downhill skiing and spending time with family and friends. She has recently developed a passion for rock climbing.
