Downtown Sports Clinics healing athletes for 30 years - DAVID PARKER, CALGARY HERALD
The universities of Dublin, Ireland and Sydney, Australia really are at opposite ends of the earth, but when physiotherapy graduates Siobhan Duggan and Julie Moylan met in Calgary they hit it off so well they decided to launch a clinic together. Thirty years later they are still running a highly successful business specializing in sports injuries.
Duggan, who hails from Cork in the south of Ireland, says her interest in geology and a desire to see the prairies brought her to Calgary, where she found work at the former Calgary General Hospital.
Moylan grew up in Newcastle, New South Wales and moved to Vancouver after university. Finding it tough to land a physiotherapist job on the coast, she moved to Calgary where she was also hired at the hospital. It was there that she met and became good friends with Duggan.
Both women were avid sportswomen — Duggan was a national champion dancer in Ireland — and talked about establishing a clinic that would specialize in sport injuries.
